Li Qiang presides over the 20th special study session of the State Council

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, June 15 — The State Council held its 20th special study session that day on “strengthening the implementation of the strategic plan for major function zones and promoting coordinated regional development.” Premier Li Qiang presided over the study session and pointed out that, in accordance with the arrangements of the Party Central Committee, and in light of the resource conditions and comparative advantages of different localities, efforts should be made to optimize the spatial layout of agriculture, ecology, and urban areas, improve the system of major function zones, and promote the formation of a territorial spatial development and protection pattern with complementary advantages and highquality development. During the study session, Academician Fan Jie of the Chinese Academy of Sciences gave a presentation, and Vice Premiers He Lifeng and Liu Guozhong, as well as State Councilor Shen Yiqin, made exchange remarks. Li Qiang said that the strategy for major function zones has achieved phased progress, and the “three zones and three lines” have also been fully delimited. At present, under the new situation, efforts should continue to be made to ensure this strategy is implemented effectively and delivers results. Li Qiang emphasized that, in response to prominent issues, efforts should be made to advance the optimization of the division of major function zones and improve the precision and refinement of spatial governance; at the same time, the policy system compatible with it should be improved, with differentiated measures for urbanized areas, major grainproducing areas, and key ecological function zones, and coordination with the regional coordinated development strategy, major regional strategies, and the newtype urbanization strategy should be strengthened to form policy synergy.
