Uber pushes to acquire Baedal Minjok... competition in the domestic delivery market is expected to intensify

As U.S. mobility platform Uber announced that it will acquire Germany's Delivery Hero (DH), there is a growing possibility that DH's South Korean business, Baemin, will also be folded into the Uber system. If this deal is completed, Uber will operate both delivery and mobility businesses together in Korea. Until now, Uber has been pursuing a strategy of combining taxihailing, food delivery, and quick commerce overseas. There are also forecasts that delivery and payment data held by Baemin, as well as businesses such as B Mart, could be included in Uber's portfolio in Korea. The market believes that if Uber's financial resources are added to Baemin, competition with Coupang Eats will become even fiercer. However, concerns are also being raised among small business owners and delivery drivers about fee increases or cost transfers.
