Democratic Party Promotes Follow-up Measures After Criminal Procedure Act Amendment and Strengthening of Victims' Rights

The Democratic Party of Korea held a public briefing on the Criminal Procedure Act amendment at the National Assembly on the 3rd and said it would establish an inparty task force (TF) to follow up on the amendment and strengthen victims’ rights.
Democratic Party Acting Leader and Floor Leader Han Byungdo explained that the procedures and deadlines for requests for supplementary investigation have been clarified and the rights to request reinvestigation and corrective measures have been refined, adding that judicial reform is not the end but the starting point of a criminal justice system for the people.
The Democratic Party believes that additional tasks remain, including securing investigative capabilities for the police and the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency, as well as streamlining procedures among investigative agencies. It also plans to process followup legislation, such as introducing a system of forwarding all cases involving crimes against socially vulnerable people, during the regular session of the National Assembly.
