40 Chinese experts win the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize

On July 9, the Chinese Academy of Engineering announced the winners of the 16th Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award in Beijing. A total of 40 experts received awards, including one Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Achievement Award recipient and 39 Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award recipients, while five experts from Hong Kong and Macao were also selected. This year's Achievement Award went to Qiu Zhongjian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in petroleum geology and exploration. He has long been engaged in oil and gas exploration research, contributing to the discovery of multiple major oil and gas resources in China and the development of offshore oil and gas exploration, and has also participated in the country's medium and longterm oil and gas strategic research. The other winners came from multiple fields, including machinery, information, chemical engineering, materials, energy, civil engineering, agriculture, and medicine. The awardwinning experts from Hong Kong and Macao came from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, and the University of Macau. Their research areas cover gastroenterology, rail transit, materials engineering, integrated circuits, and cloud computing. The Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award was established by the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995 and is reviewed every two years to recognize experts who have made outstanding contributions in the field of engineering science and technology. As of 2026, the award has been held for 16 sessions, with a total of 423 engineering and technology experts having received the award.
