Xi Jinping recently made important instructions on basic education work, stressing the need to fully implement the Party's educational policy, carry out the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and promote the highquality development of basic education. The instructions pointed out that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, basic education has made significant progress under the arrangements of the Party Central Committee, providing support for building China into a leading country in education. Xi Jinping called for persisting in using the Party's innovative theories to educate people, following the laws of education, implementing the concept that health comes first, improving the quality of education and teaching, and promoting the allaround development of students. He also emphasized the need to advance the expansion and improvement of basic education, hold the bottom line of educational equity, strengthen the building of teacher ethics and the development of the teaching force, optimize resource allocation, deepen comprehensive educational reform, and promote coordinated efforts among schools, families, and society to continuously create new prospects for basic education. At the national basic education work conference held that day, the relevant instructions were conveyed, and Ding Xuexiang attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
