Samsung announced that it will invest 60 trillion won in the Yeongnam region, focusing on humanoid robots, artificial intelligence data centers, and advanced manufacturing. The company also presented its goal of developing the Yeongnam region into a leading area for manufacturing AI.
Roh Taemoon, CEO of Samsung Electronics and head of the DX Division, announced this plan on the 3rd at the Yeongnam region Advanced Industry Development Vision National Report Conference held in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province. Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDS plan to pursue a humanoid robot production line, manufacturing AX, and an AI data center in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province.
Samsung SDI will invest 16 trillion won in Ulsan for mass production of allsolidstate batteries and batteries for energy storage systems, while Samsung ElectroMechanics will invest 15 trillion won in Busan to build package substrates for AI servers and an MLCC mother line. Samsung Heavy Industries plans to invest 10 trillion won in Geoje in building highvalueadded ships and marine infrastructure.
President Roh also requested designation as a specialized cluster for the robot industry and support for incentives, stating that related investments would create about 200,000 jobs in the Yeongnam region. At the same event, SK also presented an investment plan to foster the Yeongnam region as an AI data center hub.
