The appointment process for Kim Ji-yong as head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency resumes… moving toward a confirmation hearing amid backlash from the ruling bloc
Re-promotion of Kim Ji-yong's appointment as head of the Serious Crime Investigation Agency amid controversy Check only the key points, including the Presidential Office's rebuttal and the background behind the personnel decision
President Lee Jaemyung has decided to resume the appointment process for Kim Jiyong, the nominee for Commissioner of the Serious Crimes Investigation Agency. The Presidential Office explained that even after additional verification, its previous judgment has not changed, and that the allegations raised are not serious enough to halt the appointment process.
The Presidential Office refuted the controversy surrounding Kim’s alleged 'proYoon Seokyeol' leanings, saying it was not true. Citing his past participation in statements related to disciplinary actions and his actions during the investigation process of cases, it said it is difficult to conclude that he has a specific political inclination.
This decision also appears to have been influenced by a practical judgment that the newly launched Serious Crimes Investigation Agency cannot be left without a leader for long. While voices within the ruling party are also calling for the personnel hearing to be held as soon as possible, opposition from hardliners within the party remains a burden.
