China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment says energy transition and carbon market development have achieved significant results

Li Gao, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of China, said in Nanning, Guangxi on June 17 that China has made significant progress in energy transition, carbon market development, and industrial upgrading. According to official data, the proportion of installed renewable energy capacity in the country’s total power generation capacity has exceeded 60%, and the total installed capacity and storage capacity of wind power and solar power have also reached the national selfdetermined contribution target for 2030 ahead of schedule.
On the same day, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region jointly held the main promotional event for the 2026 "National LowCarbon Day." Li Gao said that China will continue to advance its national strategy for addressing climate change, speed up the development of a more effective, more dynamic, and more internationally influential carbon market, and actively respond to carbonrelated trade barriers.
The Ministry of Ecology and Environment also released the "Progress Report on the Construction of the Product Carbon Footprint Management System (2026)" and the "China Progress Report on Climate Change Adaptation (2025)," introducing the latest progress in carbon footprint management and climate adaptation work. The relevant reports point out that China will continue to improve its climate change adaptation work system in the future and enhance its capacity to prevent major risks and manage disasters.
