National Energy Administration: By the end of the 15th Five-Year Plan, wind and solar installed capacity will exceed 2.8 billion kW

On the 26th, the National Energy Administration said that by the end of the 15th FiveYear Plan, China's installed nonfossil energy capacity is expected to exceed 3.5 billion kilowatts, of which installed wind and solar power capacity will reach more than 2.8 billion kilowatts, providing support for achieving the country's 2035 Nationally Determined Contribution target. At the press conference held that day by the State Council Information Office, Ren Yuzhi, spokesperson for the National Energy Administration and DirectorGeneral of the Department of Planning and Development, said that emissions from the energy sector account for more than 80% of the country's carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, during the 15th FiveYear Plan period, efforts will be accelerated to advance the lowcarbon transition of energy, with multiple targets set around reducing emissions through transition, and emissions reductions will be promoted through coordinated efforts on both the supply and consumption sides. Specific measures include expanding the largescale development of nonfossil energy, promoting the green transformation of traditional energy sources such as coal, oil, and natural gas, while also strengthening energysaving retrofits in industry, buildings, and public institutions, and advancing applications such as renewable energy substitution, zerocarbon industrial parks, integrated photovoltaic buildings, and newenergy heavyduty trucks.
