The China-Germany Engineering Materials Neutron Scattering Forum Opens in Dongguan

The China-Germany Engineering Materials Neutron Scattering Forum focuses on nondestructive testing and microstructure analysis, promoting international cooperation Coaching classes are launched simultaneously to help young researchers improve through practical training and expand applications in fields such as aerospace

The SinoGerman Forum on Engineering Materials Neutron Scattering and the Neutron FullProfile Fitting Workshop opened in Dongguan on September 14, with experts and scholars from China, Germany, Hungary, and other countries in attendance. The event aims to promote international academic exchange and provide a handson training platform for young researchers. The event is jointly organized by the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the China Spallation Neutron Source Science Center, and is supported by relevant cooperative projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the German Research Foundation. Attendees said neutron scattering is an important nondestructive testing method that can be used to analyze the microstructure and residual stress inside engineering materials, and has important applications in fields such as aerospace, rail transportation, energy storage, and superconductivity. At the forum, researchers from China and Germany introduced the progress of their cooperation and followup plans. Relevant officials said the two sides have already achieved practical results in spectrometer commissioning, standardized analysis, and equipment iteration, and will continue to advance cooperation on other spectrometers while striving for a new round of indepth scientific research collaboration. The workshop held in parallel will run until September 18, offering theory and practical instruction on topics such as grain size effects and strain anisotropy.
