The Ministry of Public Security’s National Cybersecurity Bureau recently announced five typical cases in a crackdown on the "Silver Fox" Trojan virus. The bulletin said that this type of Trojan mainly targets employees of enterprises and public institutions, especially finance personnel, and spreads through phishing emails, spoofed websites, and bundled software, thereby carrying out actions such as remote control, stealing account passwords, intercepting verification codes, and stealing data. In places including Jilin, Hangzhou in Zhejiang, Shandong, Guangdong, and Jiaxing in Zhejiang, public security cybercrime departments have successively solved multiple related cases and arrested many suspects. The bulletin shows that among the criminal groups involved, some produced and sold Trojan variants, while others lured users to download malicious installation packages or impersonated official download sites by setting up phishing websites. They illegally controlled others’ computer information systems and stole online assets, with amounts involved ranging from over 200,000 yuan to over 7 million yuan. The public security authorities also issued prevention reminders, advising users to download software through official websites, verify domain names and digital signatures, not to click on unknown links in group chats lightly, and not to enter bank card numbers, passwords, or SMS verification codes on unofficial pages. If a computer anomaly is discovered, users should disconnect from the internet as soon as possible, change passwords, notify relevant contacts, and carry out professional virus removal.
