The themed lecture series “Tackling Tough Challenges: Promoting the Spirit of Scientists in the New Era” by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, together with a report on the advanced deeds of Xu Hongjie, one of the “Most Beautiful Science and Technology Workers Nationwide,” was held on July 20 at the Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The event highlighted Xu Hongjie’s research career as a nuclear physicist and synchrotron radiation physicist in the construction of advanced nuclear energy systems and major scientific facilities, with a focus on his work in tackling key challenges based on national needs and his longterm commitment to the front line of scientific research.
Through a documentary and presentation sessions, the report introduced Xu Hongjie’s spirit of serving the country through science and technology, overcoming difficulties, remaining indifferent to fame and fortune, and willingly supporting the growth of others. The organizers said they hope researchers will take him as a role model, integrate their personal ideals into the building of a strong nation in science and technology, and continue advancing highlevel selfreliance and strength in science and technology.
