Cross-Strait Shipbuilding Culture Exchange Event Opens in Fuzhou
The shipbuilding culture exchange event opened in Fuzhou, linking shared Minnan-Taiwan memories with a sense of home and country See descendants and young people from both sides of the strait discuss historical context together and experience cross-strait cultural identity
The 18th Straits Forum · CrossStrait Shipbuilding Culture Exchange event opened in Fuzhou on the 7th, under the theme “Charting the seas toward strength · roots and veins connected.” The event brought together descendants of the shipbuilding administration on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, historians and literary scholars, and youth representatives to jointly explore the historical thread in shipbuilding culture that traces the common origin of Fujian and Taiwan, and to discuss the shared cultural and homeland memories across the Strait.
At the “My Shipbuilding Memory” sharing session, Wang Yanming, a shipbuilding descendant based in Taiwan, recounted her father’s experience of studying within the shipbuilding education system and donated her father’s personal items such as notebooks, graduation photos, and drafting tools. The Fujian Provincial Archives also searched for relevant records and made copies for her, presenting them as a special “family letter.”
Weng Yuqing, a descendant of Shen Baozhen from Taiwan, said that shipbuilding culture spans the Strait and connects the blood ties and culture of both sides. She said that Fuzhou’s revitalized inheritance of shipbuilding culture has allowed history to be seen in a more vivid way, and she also hopes to continue promoting youth exchanges across the Strait and carrying forward the shared cultural identity.
