First lumpy skin disease case confirmed this year at a Hanwoo cattle farm in Sunchang

The first confirmed domestic case of lumpy skin disease this year has been reported at a Hanwoo farm in Sunchang, North Jeolla Province. A cow that showed suspected symptoms the previous day was tested in detail and confirmed positive, and the quarantine authorities immediately imposed movement restrictions and began initial diseasecontrol measures. This case is the first to occur since lumpy skin disease was reclassified as a Class 2 livestock infectious disease last March. Accordingly, rather than culling on a large scale as in the past, limited diseasecontrol measures centered on the affected farm were applied. North Jeolla Province isolated three cows that tested positive in a barn equipped with insectproof facilities without culling them. It is also giving additional vaccinations to the remaining cattle being raised and is simultaneously carrying out vector insect control and access restrictions. The province plans to complete emergency vaccinations for more than 27,000 cattle at 599 farms in the Sunchang area by the 24th.
