On September 30, the Ministry of Water Resources introduced at a State Council Information Office press conference that from January to September this year, 414,000 water conservancy projects of various types were implemented nationwide, with 795 billion yuan completed in water conservancy construction investment, driving employment for 2.01 million people. The relevant investment and project progress provided support for flood control, water supply, food security, and ecological security. In terms of flood control, many places have been hit by floods since the beginning of this year. Relevant reservoirs participated in dispatch operations, cumulatively storing 137.5 billion cubic meters of floodwater, reducing flooding in towns and farmland in many places, and lowering the scale of personnel evacuation, to minimize flood disaster losses as much as possible. In terms of water supply and food security, the construction of rural water supply projects has continued to advance, and the rural tap water coverage rate is expected to reach 97% by the end of the year. At the same time, multiple irrigation district construction and renovation projects have been promoted, with irrigation water supply totaling nearly 200 billion cubic meters this year, ensuring water demand for autumn grain and wintering crops. In addition, the water resources authorities have also continued to promote the ecological restoration of rivers and lakes, consolidate the achievements of river and lake governance in the areas that have already been revived, and launched the second batch of actions to revive mother rivers.
