Samsung Biologics has decided to acquire the Swiss peptide contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) company Polypeptide Group for about 2.7 trillion won. This deal is the largest merger and acquisition in the domestic pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Through this acquisition, Samsung Biologics will expand its portfolio beyond antibody therapeutics to include peptide drugs, following mRNA and ADC. In particular, it marks a fullscale entry into the peptide CDMO market, which is growing due to rising demand for obesity and diabetes treatments. Polypeptide Group is a company with production facilities and R&D hubs in Europe, the United States, India, and other regions, centered around its headquarters in Switzerland. It has extensive experience in the development and production of peptide therapeutics, and Samsung Biologics plans to boost its contractwinning competitiveness by leveraging the company’s customer base and global production network.
