Over 11.27 million border crossings nationwide during the May Day holiday, up 3.5% year on year

The number of entries and exits during the May Day holiday hit a new high, and border inspection ensured smooth clearance for 11.279 million people Visa-free entry by foreigners increased significantly, port order remained stable, and the data shows the popularity of outbound tourism

On May 6, the National Immigration Administration reported that during this year’s Labor Day holiday, border inspection authorities across the country safeguarded the entry and exit of 11.279 million Chinese and foreign travelers, with an average of 2.256 million per day, up 3.5% from the same period last year. Among them, May 2 was the peak day for clearance, with the number of entry and exit travelers reaching 2.529 million in a single day. Data show that during the holiday, 1.255 million foreigners entered and exited the country, up 12.5% year on year; among them, 436,000 foreigners entered under the visafree policy, up 14.7% year on year. At the same time, a total of 531,000 inbound and outbound transportation vehicles were inspected nationwide (aircraft, vessels, trains, and vehicles), up 16.6% year on year. To respond to the holiday passenger flow, border inspection authorities nationwide strengthened passenger flow analysis and onsite guidance as required, opened additional inspection channels, and implemented measures such as ensuring that Chinese citizens wait no more than 30 minutes in line for clearance, so as to ensure the safety and smoothness of entry and exit order at each port of entry and exit.
