The State Council establishes a Chongqing Pengshui landslide disaster investigation and assessment team

The State Council has established the Chongqing Pengshui Hanjia Subdistrict “7·17” exceptionally serious landslide disaster investigation and assessment team, which is responsible for conducting an investigation and assessment of the causes of the disaster and the response and handling measures. According to the Ministry of Emergency Management, on July 17, a landslide occurred in Hanjia Subdistrict, Pengshui County, Chongqing, causing significant casualties. In accordance with relevant laws and regulations, the investigation and assessment team is led by the Ministry of Emergency Management, with participation from the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Housing and UrbanRural Development, the Ministry of Transport, the China Meteorological Administration, and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government, among other entities. On August 4, the investigation and assessment team held its first plenary meeting in Pengshui, Chongqing. Before the meeting began, all attendees observed a moment of silence for the victims. The meeting called for a comprehensive review of the disaster process, a thorough determination of the causes, and a systematic examination of disaster prevention, emergency response, and the implementation of relevant responsibilities. At the same time, relevant departments were required to further strengthen the investigation of geological disaster hazards, monitoring and early warning, and patrols to eliminate risks, and to improve the level of disaster prevention, mitigation, and relief work.
