Zhao Leji Holds Talks with Singapore Parliament Speaker Seah Kian Peng

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, June 12 — Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, met on the 12th in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing with visiting Speaker of the Singaporean Parliament Seah Kian Peng. The two sides exchanged views on ChinaSingapore relations, exchanges between legislative bodies, and cooperation in multiple fields. Zhao Leji said that last year the two countries jointly celebrated the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. After President Xi Jinping’s meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, the direction for the development of bilateral relations was further clarified. The Chinese side stands ready to strengthen strategic communication with the Singaporean side, deepen political mutual trust, and promote new progress in the allround, highquality, forwardlooking partnership between China and Singapore. Zhao Leji also said that the Chinese side hopes the two countries will continue to expand cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, clean energy, and scientific and technological innovation, and promote exchanges in culture, education, media, and among young people. At the same time, the National People’s Congress of China is willing to strengthen communication with the Singaporean Parliament in areas such as highlevel exchanges, specialized committees, and friendship groups, so as to provide more legal and institutional support for bilateral cooperation. Seah Kian Peng said that the foundation of SingaporeChina relations is solid, and Singapore adheres to the oneChina policy. Singapore is willing to continue strengthening cooperation with the Chinese side in areas such as trade, economic and investment ties, green development, climate change, and people’s livelihood, and supports the two sides’ legislative bodies in maintaining close exchanges.
