Independent lawmaker Han Donghoon on the 8th additionally released recordings of phone calls made by broker Yang, regarding allegations of impropriety in Genencel’s approval for a clinical trial of its COVID19 treatment.
Lawmaker Han said the recordings showed that Yang, during a 2021 call with Genencel founder Kang, mentioned his acquaintance with people at the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and with Democratic Party figures, and said he could help with the approval process. Kang was also reported to have said in a later call that the procedure could go more smoothly if people on the Democratic Party side said a word.
Han claimed that former Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs Choi Jaesung had explained his relationship with Yang, but had not sufficiently explained why he was involved in the approval of Genencel’s new drug or related discussions. In response, former Senior Secretary Choi had previously explained that he came to know him through volunteer group activities.
