The Red Flag Canal commemorates the arduous journey of the builders of the Red Flag Canal in cutting through the Taihang Mountains and diverting water. The article reviews how, in the 1960s, the people of Linxian County, Henan, under the leadership of the Party, relied on manpower and rudimentary tools to build the Red Flag Canal and alleviate the longstanding water shortage.
According to reports, the project began in February 1960. The builders worked on sheer cliffs and precipices, overcoming difficulties such as falling rocks and shortages of supplies. Groups such as the DangerAverting Assault Team and the "Iron Girls Team" successively took part in the construction, demonstrating the spirit of selfreliance, hard work and entrepreneurship, solidarity and cooperation, and selfless dedication.
In July 1969, all supporting projects for the Red Flag Canal were completed. Today, this canal still plays a role in irrigation and water supply. It has recently completed an upgrade to improve quality and efficiency, further enhancing its watersaving, allocation, and disasterprevention capabilities, and has also become an important site for red educational tours and Party spirit education.
