Samsung and SK announced that they will invest a total of 4,755 trillion won domestically over the next 10 years in advanced industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jaeyong and SK Group Chairman Chey Taewon attended a public briefing held on the 29th at the Blue House guesthouse and unveiled their investment plans for regions outside the Seoul metropolitan area. Samsung Electronics plans to invest 425 trillion won in the Honam semiconductor cluster, while SK hynix plans to invest 400 trillion won to expand memory production facilities.
The two groups explained that expanding production capacity is necessary to respond to growing AI demand. In line with the government's push for balanced regional development, Gwangju and the southwestern region were mentioned as major candidate sites, and site conditions such as power, water supply, and land were also said to have influenced the investment decision.
