Wang Yi meets Secretary-General candidate Sarr, the next United Nations Secretary-General

On June 29, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, met in Beijing with the candidate for the next UN SecretaryGeneral, former Senegalese President Macky Sall, with former GuineaBissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló participating in the meeting. Sall said that under the current international situation, the status and role of the United Nations are even more important. He stressed that the leading position of member states should be respected, UN reform should be advanced step by step, and principles such as fairness and equity, consensusbuilding, and inclusiveness and openness should be upheld, while maintaining the authority and efficiency of the Security Council and focusing on the international development agenda. Wang Yi said that Sall's candidacy reflects support for multilateralism and the cause of the United Nations, as well as a sense of responsibility for the common interests of the Global South and Africa.
