Policy committees of ruling and opposition parties discuss livelihood issues and judicial reform matters
A summary of the key issues at the ruling and opposition parties' joint policy committee meeting on livelihood bills and real estate tax policy We outline the direction for resolution, with speed for common tasks and deliberation for contentious bills
The policy committees of the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party held a joint meeting on the 1st and discussed livelihood bills, judicial reform, and real estate tax policy.
Democratic Party Deputy Policy Committee Chairman Park Heeseung said that even within the party there are differing opinions regarding the dismissal of the prosecution in President Lee Jaemyung's case, adding that excessive concern is unnecessary. However, at the same meeting, the People Power Party raised the related controversy and demanded that the hearing be conducted strictly.
Both sides shared the view that they should first address common tasks such as the low birthrate, the climate crisis, public safety, protection of small business owners, and youth policy. The Democratic Party said it should move quickly on issues that can be agreed upon, while the People Power Party emphasized that contentious bills require sufficient deliberation and supplemental discussion.
The People Power Party requested revision discussions, raising concerns about onsite confusion and gaps in investigations over the real estate tax reform plan, the Yellow Envelope Act, the bill to abolish supplementary investigative authority, and the revision to the Criminal Procedure Act.
