Amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act to Abolish Supplementary Investigation Rights to Be Put to a Plenary Vote

A revision to the Criminal Procedure Act that includes the removal of prosecutors' supplementary investigation authority was brought to the National Assembly plenary session on the 30th. In response, the People Power Party launched a filibuster, and the bill is expected to be put to a vote on the 31st. The key point of the revision is to separate investigation and prosecution, assigning investigative authority to judicial police officers and allowing prosecutors to focus on filing and maintaining indictments. Instead, it also includes safeguards such as procedures through which prosecutors can request supplementary investigations, deadlines for police compliance, and complainants' right to object. On this day, the National Assembly also passed, with bipartisan agreement, a special counsel bill on the National Election Commission to determine the cause of the shortage of ballots in the June 3 local election. The special counsel nomination committee was set to consist of six members, with each negotiating bloc recommending three members.
