The South China Sea summer fishing moratorium enforcement has begun, with Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan coordinating to strictly manage key sea areas and fishing ports At the same time, the new Fisheries Law is being implemented, strengthening patrols and enforcement to safeguard the moratorium order and marine resources
On April 30, the South China Sea Bureau of the China Coast Guard organized coast guard and fisheries law enforcement agencies from Guangdong, Guangxi, and Hainan in Zhuhai, Guangdong, to officially launch the 2026 South China Sea summer fishing moratorium law enforcement campaign, marking the start of this year’s fishing moratorium supervision.
After the campaign was launched, coast guard vessels and fisheries law enforcement boats have gone to key sea areas and fishing port terminals to carry out inspections. Relevant departments said they will continue to strengthen law enforcement efforts around key tasks, key sea areas, and coordination mechanisms for the fishing moratorium, ensuring the implementation of the fishing moratorium system.
According to reports, the 2026 South China Sea summer fishing moratorium period runs from 12:00 on May 1 to 12:00 on August 16, and the moratorium covers the South China Sea waters north of 12 degrees north latitude. During the moratorium, all types of operations except fishing gear, as well as supporting fishing auxiliary vessels, are subject to control. The newly revised Fisheries Law also took effect on May 1 and will be implemented in step with the fishing moratorium system, with law enforcement and supervision set to become even stricter.
