China Leads Revision of the International Standard for General Modular Fuse-Links

The State Administration for Market Regulation announced on June 3 that the international standard “Miniature fuses—Part 4: Universal modular fuselinks (UMF)—Throughhole and surfacemount types,” led by China in its revision, was recently approved for release.
Universal modular fuselinks are an important class of components used for circuit protection. They are usually mounted on printed circuit boards and other substrate systems by surfacemount or throughhole methods, and are characterized by a small size and easy installation. As related products evolve toward miniaturization, lighter weight, and thinner profiles, some technical requirements and test methods in the original standard have become increasingly unable to fully adapt to industry changes.
The new standard sets out requirements for the specifications, dimensions, structure, and electrical performance of universal modular fuselinks, and improves the test methods and performance verification. It can be used to protect indoor electrical installations, electronic equipment, and their components. Relevant parties said that this achievement reflects China’s capability to participate in international standardization work in the field of electronics and electrical appliances, and also provides new standard support for the development of circuit protection technology.
