Harbin Engineering University establishes China's first Spent Fuel Reprocessing and Advanced Materials Research Institute

The Spent Fuel Reprocessing Research Institute focuses on nuclear energy safety and sustainable development, driving breakthroughs in scientific research Relying on integrated undergraduate-doctoral training and industry-university-research collaboration, it helps cultivate talent and bring technologies into practical application

Harbin Engineering University recently established China’s first Research Institute for Spent Fuel Reprocessing and Advanced Materials, aiming to advance scientific research and talent development in related fields based on the needs of nuclear energy safety and sustainable development. The university said the institute will rely on the Xinghai Leading Class, the first in the country to offer an integrated bachelor’stodoctoral program in spent fuel reprocessing, adopt a "3+1+X" training model, and work with research institutes and industry enterprises to build a talent cultivation chain that combines classroom learning, field practice, and projectbased research. Harbin Engineering University said this initiative is an important measure for the school to serve major national strategic needs and advance cuttingedge research in nuclear technology, and it will also provide talent and intellectual support for the safe and efficient disposal and utilization of spent fuel.
