Hyundai Department Store reduces wood usage by 8,000 tons with eco-friendly shopping bags

Four years after Hyundai Department Store introduced ecofriendly shopping bags made from 100% recycled paper, it has been found to have reduced wood usage by about 8,000 tons. This is equivalent to protecting about 53,000 trees. In June 2022, Hyundai Department Store became the first in the industry to introduce shopping bags made from waste paper at all of its stores nationwide. By the end of May this year, it had produced a total of 32 million bags and is operating based on its resource circulation system, “Project 100,” which collects delivery boxes and packaging containers from department stores and reuses them as recycled paper. Over the past four years, the amount of waste paper used to produce the shopping bags has reached 1,758 tons. Since no additional processing such as separate coating is applied, they can also be recycled after use. Hyundai Department Store plans to unveil ecofriendly shopping bags with a new design reflecting its brand identity next year.
