Escalating internal strife in the broad pro-government camp... conflict spreads over criticism of Choo Mi-ae and Kim Min-seok's backlash
We examine why the conflict over prosecutorial reform and internal exchanges within the broad pro-government camp are growing. Pushed aside in favor of livelihoods and state affairs? Check the core issues and impact of the ruling camp's conflict.
Internal conflict within the broader ruling bloc over the direction of prosecution reform is continuing day after day and is escalating into an emotional clash. As the backandforth between the Democratic Party of Korea and the Rebuilding Korea Party intensifies, there are also criticisms that discussions of state affairs and people’s livelihoods are being pushed to the back burner.
This conflict began to grow in earnest after Seoul Metropolitan Government Governor Choo Miae criticized President Lee Jaemyung on the 12th. Representative Kim Minseok publicly rebutted her, and the Rebuilding Korea Party also pushed back, raising the tone of the remarks. Within the party, voices are emerging saying that Representative Kim should take on the role of easing tensions rather than responding immediately.
Democratic Party lawmaker Park Jiewon said he understands Representative Kim’s intention, but if he is the leader of the ruling party, he should embrace rather than escalate the issue. Other Democratic Party lawmakers also said that remarks related to impeachment only fueled the controversy, and that right now, more important than internal clashes are discussions on real estate and livelihood policies.
