A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on the evening of June 18 that China hopes and believes the South Korean side will continue to uphold the political commitments made when China and South Korea established diplomatic relations, effectively respect the oneChina principle, and safeguard the political foundation of bilateral relations.
This statement was made in response to a South Korean Foreign Ministry official fully and publicly reiterating that day the Taiwanrelated wording in the Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and South Korea. The Chinese side said that South Korea's public reiteration of the relevant content this time shows that its position on the oneChina issue has not changed, and China gives this a positive assessment.
The spokesperson also noted that South Korean President Lee Jaemyung had previously made it clear before and after his visit to China that the South Korean side respects China's core interests and major concerns and adheres to the oneChina position. China hopes the South Korean side will translate these statements into concrete actions and continue to provide political support for the stable development of ChinaSouth Korea relations.
