Chinese Language Teachers from Multiple Countries Study Chinese Culture in China

Recently, nearly 30 overseas Chinese language teachers from countries and regions including the United States, Canada, Malaysia, and Thailand took part in the closing event of the “Su Yun Zhi Xing” Overseas Chinese Language Teachers Cultural Study Camp in Nanjing, Jiangsu. Over the past week or so, they visited Nanjing, Xuzhou, and Qufu in Shandong, conducting study and exchange activities centered on tracing the origins of traditional culture, experiencing intangible cultural heritage skills, and visiting science and technology innovation sites. During the event, the teachers attended courses on Kunqu Opera, poetry, and more, visited relics from the Six Dynasties capital, heritage sites of Han culture, and sacred places of Confucian culture, and toured an artificial intelligence ecological district. Many teachers said the trip gave them a more intuitive understanding of the rich connotations of Chinese culture and also offered new ideas for improving overseas Chinese language teaching in the future. The interviewed teachers mentioned that they plan to bring back handson experiences such as papercutting, clay figure making, and silk flower crafting to their overseas classrooms, introducing the Chinese language and traditional Chinese culture to young people overseas in a more vivid and diverse way, and helping students deepen their understanding of China’s history, culture, and development beyond language learning.
