China's largest selfpropelled pureelectric deepsea cablelaying vessel, the “Blue Ocean Navigator,” completed its launching operations in Qidong, Jiangsu, on August 4, marking a step closer to delivery and operation for this major piece of equipment aimed at the offshore wind power sector.
Reports show that the vessel was independently designed by the China Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering Design and Research Institute and built by Nantong Xiangyu Marine Equipment Co., Ltd. It has a fullload displacement of about 35,000 tons, and its central turntable can carry up to 16,000 tons of cable, ranking among the top in Asia in cablecarrying capacity.
The “Blue Ocean Navigator” is certified for unlimited navigation areas and is equipped with a helicopter platform, a large coaxial turntable, dual cableout channels, and a DP2 dynamic positioning system. Its maximum operating water depth can reach 3,000 meters. Once completed, it will mainly be used for laying highvoltage submarine cables for deep and farsea wind farms, as well as for crossocean submarine power cable installation and other tasks.
The article also noted that Jiangsu is an important base for China's shipbuilding and marine engineering equipment industry, with advanced manufacturing clusters already taking shape in places such as Nantong, Taizhou, and Yangzhou. Data from the Nantong Maritime Safety Administration show that in the first half of this year, it safely supported the sea trials and delivery of multiple hightech vessels and marine engineering equipment, with related manufacturing and marine engineering activities remaining active.
