First Severe Heat Wave Alert in Seoul, Extreme Heat Spreading Nationwide

On the 3rd, a severe heatwave warning was issued for Seoul for the first time. In Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, a recordhigh temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius was recorded, and the extreme heatwave that had been confined to the Yeongnam region is now spreading nationwide.
The Korea Meteorological Administration said it would additionally issue severe heatwave warnings for some areas of Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, and South Jeolla Province this afternoon. This measure will take effect at 11 a.m. on the 4th.
The KMA explained that the foehn phenomenon, in which east winds become hot and dry as they cross mountain ranges, is intensifying the heat. Heatwave advisories are currently in effect across the entire Seoul metropolitan area, and most regions nationwide are also under the influence of the heatwave.
