The Ministry of Justice has released the interior of a solitary confinement cell at Seoul Detention Center for the first time to explain allegations of preferential treatment surrounding former President Yoon Sukyeol's life in detention.
On the 10th, the Ministry of Justice uploaded a video of about two minutes to YouTube and showed a solitary confinement cell of the same type as the one being used by former President Yoon. The disclosed space was 6.76㎡, about two pyeong including the bathroom, and was so small that it could barely fit one adult male lying down.
The Ministry of Justice explained that solitary cells are assigned according to health conditions or inmate classification standards, and that inmates cannot freely move between rooms. It also refuted claims by saying that former President Yoon is using only one solitary cell, the same as ordinary inmates, and that he does not have dedicated cleaning staff.
