Boston Dynamics Atlas Begins Training Ahead of Deployment on Hyundai’s Production Line
Atlas robot begins operation at a dedicated training facility ahead of deployment on Hyundai’s production line With on-site learning, it expands from logistics and transport to assembly—see how production innovation is taking shape
Boston Dynamics, an affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, has begun operating a dedicated training facility in Georgia, USA, ahead of deploying its humanoid robot Atlas to automotive production lines.
Boston Dynamics announced on the 22nd that it has opened the Robotics Metaplant Application Center (RMAC), a robot training center specialized in manufacturing, at the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America site. This facility is a space where Atlas learns process tasks such as logistics operations, parts sorting, and transport in an environment similar to an actual finished vehicle factory.
The company and Hyundai Motor Group plan to expand robot applications first into highly demanding tasks such as repetitive work and heavyload transport, and to extend their roles to parts assembly by 2030. Going forward, they also envision advancing robot training based on data collected at production sites and gradually deploying Atlas across global production hubs.
However, as robot adoption increases, challenges such as job displacement, changes in labormanagement relations, and safety and quality control are also expected to grow alongside expectations for improved productivity and reduced costs.
