President Lee discusses semiconductor investment with Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong

Discussions on semiconductor investment in non-metropolitan regions, with consideration of expanding regional clusters and supporting infrastructure Also pay attention to Samsung and SK's plans for memory, packaging, and AI data centers

President Lee Jaemyung met with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jaeyong at the Blue House and discussed plans for investment in semiconductor factories outside the Seoul metropolitan area. At this meeting, the key agenda item was how to expand investment in advanced industries across the country, including Honam as well as Yeongnam, Chungcheong, Gangwon, and Jeju. The government is considering support for industrial infrastructure if a semiconductor cluster is established outside the Seoul metropolitan area, and related plans are expected to be unveiled on the 29th. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are reportedly reviewing the creation of a semiconductor cluster that would include memory semiconductor production lines, advanced packaging, and AI data centers. However, the government explained that this does not mean relocating the currently planned Yongin cluster in Gyeonggi Province to the regions.
