National shooting team member stripped of the Taegeuk mark after being caught storing 818 live rounds

A national shooting team athlete, A, who was scheduled to compete in the 2026 AichiNagoya Asian Games, lost national team eligibility after being found to have stored 818 competition rounds of live ammunition in a vehicle trunk. The incident occurred on the 19th at the National Training Center for Athletes in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province. While hastily packing equipment to depart for the Hangzhou World Cup in China, A left the athlete village with the vehicle trunk open, and a security staff member who checked this discovered the live ammunition and reported it to the Korea Shooting Federation and the police. Citing regulations that allow a maximum of 400 shotgun shells to be possessed at one time, the federation stripped A of Asian Games national team qualification. Instead, the runnerup in the national team selection trials, Ahn Daemyung (Busan Metropolitan City Hall), will compete in the Asian Games, and the federation said it will accept objections until the 7th of next month. The federation also plans to conduct live ammunition management training for national team athletes in August together with the National Police Agency.
