Companies with assets exceeding 1 trillion won to disclose carbon emissions from 2028

The Financial Services Commission has decided to make climaterelated disclosures mandatory for KOSPIlisted companies with assets of 1 trillion won or more starting in 2028. Eligible companies will be determined based on total assets including subsidiaries on a consolidated basis, and the threshold will be expanded to 500 billion won or more in 2029.
Disclosure items will include climate indicators such as greenhouse gas emissions and the degree of exposure to climate risks. Companies must submit this information along with their annual business reports every March, while social and governancerelated items may be disclosed on a voluntary basis.
The government plans to introduce a thirdparty certification system starting in 2030 to enhance the reliability of disclosures. However, for the first three years, a certain degree of immunity will be granted for disclosure errors or omissions, while intentional greenwashing will be dealt with strictly.
