Former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s first Supreme Court ruling to be announced on the 9th

The Supreme Court's Third Division will issue its ruling on the 9th on former President Yoon Suk Yeol's charges of obstruction of special official duties and abuse of authority, among others. This is the first time the Supreme Court will make a decision on former President Yoon's case since the December 3 martial law crisis. Former President Yoon is accused of convening only some Cabinet members at the Cabinet meeting before declaring martial law, thereby infringing on the deliberation rights of the other members, as well as using the Presidential Security Service to block the Corruption Investigation Office's execution of the arrest warrant. Charges related to the preparation and use of false official documents, orders to issue false press statements, and orders to delete call records on secure phones were also addressed. The first trial found some of the charges guilty and sentenced him to five years in prison, and the second trial also recognized the false press statement charges as guilty and sentenced him to seven years in prison. As both former President Yoon and the special counsel for insurrection filed appeals, the case went up to the Supreme Court. On the same day, the bribery case involving former Unification Church World Headquarters chief Yoon Youngho and Jeon Seongbae will also be ruled on.
