Former Pakistani dignitary says Middle East security should be jointly controlled by regional countries

Mushahid, former chairman of the Pakistan Senate Defense Committee, said at the 14th World Peace Forum held in Beijing on July 3 that the conflict between the US and Iran has brought about a new turning point in the Middle East situation, and countries in the region are increasingly realizing that security cannot rely on external forces; it must be jointly borne by countries of the region. He mentioned that after the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran, the relevant arrangements have already begun to show results. He also said that China supports Pakistan's efforts in mediation and continues to play a constructive role in regional peace. Mushahid also pointed out that the world is currently in a stage where transformation and turmoil coexist, the global power structure is changing, and issues such as AI governance and the climate crisis are also increasing the common challenges facing the international community. He said that Pakistan is willing to cooperate with China and other countries to promote the building of a world without hegemony, one that is more peaceful and prosperous.
