The second special counsel team led by Kwon Changyoung has filed for an arrest warrant against former Army Ground Operations Commander Kang Hopil on charges of engaging in important duties in an insurrection.
According to the legal community, the pretrial detention hearing for former Commander Kang is scheduled to take place on the 13th at the Seoul Central District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Lee Jongrok, who is in charge of warrant reviews for insurrection cases.
The special counsel is examining signs that former Commander Kang was involved in discussions related to activating the martial law system before and after the declaration of emergency martial law. The article also reported that other related commanders have already been indicted on the same charges and are on trial.
