Guy Sorman: “Trump’s next move should be read through psychology, not geopolitics”
A psychological analysis of Trump; Sorman’s view on the future of tariffs, alliances, and AI It also examines the Asian alliances Korea should prepare for and solutions for AI redistribution
Guy Sorman, a French economist and professor at New York University, said that when predicting the future moves of U.S. President Donald Trump, psychology should be considered more than geopolitics. He assessed that Trump is sensitive to praise and recognition and tends to be attracted to strong leaders.
Sorman pointed out that the Trump administration's tariff policy is increasing uncertainty in the global economic order, but said that South Korea and Japan could become the core of an 'Asian alliance' similar to the European Union. He also suggested that South Korea should expand economic ties with diverse regions, including Africa and Latin America.
Regarding artificial intelligence, he opposed direct taxation but supported a negative income tax that guarantees income below a certain level. He said that AI will change jobs, but that historically technological innovation has created new opportunities, and stated that market economies and redistribution should be considered together.
