Hyosung Heavy Industries establishes a production system for ultra-high-voltage circuit breakers in the U.S.

Hyosung Heavy Industries has laid the groundwork to produce extrahighvoltage circuit breakers locally in the United States. Its subsidiary, Hyosung HICO, has signed an agreement with a subsidiary of North American energy infrastructure solutions company Quanta to establish a joint venture for gasinsulated circuit breakers. The joint venture is scheduled to be established in July, and from October it will begin producing extrahighvoltage circuit breakers ranging from 72.5 kV to 800 kV at its plant in Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Hyosung Heavy Industries explained that, through this partnership, it will become the first Korean power equipment company to have the capability to produce both transformers and circuit breakers in the United States. The company said the move is intended to respond to rising demand for power equipment in the U.S. amid the expansion of AI data centers and the modernization of aging power grids. Quanta is a major U.S. EPC company specializing in power and energy infrastructure, and Hyosung Heavy Industries sees this partnership as an important opportunity to expand its entry into the U.S. market.
