Man in His 60s Accused of Obstructing On-Site Investigation at Olympic Park, on the Brink of Detention

A man in his 60s, who is accused of blocking a field inspection at Olympic Park by a special parliamentary committee investigating the shortage of ballots in the June 3 local elections, is under review for whether he should be detained. On the afternoon of the 4th, the Seoul Eastern District Court conducted a pretrial detention hearing for A, who was arrested on charges of obstructing official duties. Appearing in court, A denied the allegation that he assaulted police officers and said the scene was a peaceful civic gathering, and that he had participated there as one of the public. In response to a question about whether he had blocked the committee members' entry, he claimed that he did not block them, but was simply trying to go toward the restroom, and that he merely said what he wanted to say to the lawmakers. Police stated that A was arrested in the act on the 2nd on suspicion of pushing a police officer who was directing movement during the entry process to the handball arena at Olympic Park.
