AI hacking attacks targeting 6 domestic banks confirm personal information leaks at 4 of them

AI hacking attacks have raised security alerts as customer information from 6 domestic banks has been leaked See why system inspections and strengthened responses in the financial sector are urgently needed

It has been reported that six domestic banks were hit by simultaneous hacking attacks on the 1st and 2nd of this month, believed to have used AI tools. Shinhan Bank, KB Kookmin Bank, Hana Bank, Woori Bank, NH NongHyup Bank, and BNK Busan Bank were targeted, and customer information leaks have been confirmed at some of these banks. It was found that the personal information of about 25,000 customers at Shinhan Bank, 119 at KB Kookmin Bank, and 89 at Hana Bank was leaked. At BNK Busan Bank, it was confirmed that outsourced employee information had been compromised. The attack reportedly targeted other security vulnerabilities at each bank, such as employee websites, rather than the banks' main computer networks. On the server used in the attack, traces were also found suggesting that an AI agent autonomously carried out the infiltration. The Financial Services Commission held an emergency meeting on the 2nd and ordered banks and credit card companies to inspect their computer systems. Experts say that as AIbased attack technologies rapidly advance, stronger security measures are needed across various industries, including the financial sector.
