Samsung Electronics’ second-quarter operating profit surpasses Nvidia, marking an all-time high

Samsung Electronics posted its best-ever quarterly results in Q2, driven by strong demand for AI memory. Quickly check the background behind the rebound in semiconductors, led by strength in HBM and server DRAM.

Samsung Electronics posted consolidated revenue of 171 trillion won and operating profit of 8.94 trillion won in the second quarter of this year, recording its highestever quarterly performance. Revenue increased by 129.31% and operating profit by 1,810.26% compared with the same period last year, and it surpassed last quarter's record in just one quarter. This performance is interpreted as being largely driven by increased demand for memory semiconductors and rising prices amid the spread of artificial intelligence. The semiconductor (DS) division led the results, and demand for highvalueadded products such as HBM and server DRAM also appears to have increased. The article reported that Samsung Electronics' operating profit in the second quarter was unusually high even among global big tech companies, and that it also surpassed Nvidia's recent quarterly operating profit record. However, detailed results by division have not yet been disclosed.
