Two earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above struck Eryuan, Dali in succession

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, at 19:09 and 19:14 on July 11, two earthquakes struck Eryuan County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, with magnitudes of 3.8 and 3.3, and focal depths of 9 kilometers and 11 kilometers, respectively. Public information shows that both earthquakes had their epicenters near Eryuan County, indicating successive tremors in the same area within a short period of time. The China Earthquake Networks Center’s quick report catalog also shows that within a 200kilometer radius of the epicenter, there have been multiple earthquakes above magnitude 3 in the past five years. Eryuan County is located in northwestern Yunnan and is the birthplace of Erhai Lake. The area is known for its multiethnic population, including the Bai ethnic group. Current reports do not mention any casualties or property losses.
