The Ministry of Civil Affairs Promotes Pilot Construction of a Directory of Administrative Divisions, Place Names, and Cultural Relics

On July 30, the Ministry of Civil Affairs held its regular press conference, introducing that it has jointly launched with the National Cultural Heritage Administration the pilot program for building a catalog of relics related to administrative divisions and place names. The relevant notice has been issued, and plans call for selecting about 15 pilot areas nationwide to explore ways of identifying, announcing, protecting, and utilizing relics related to administrative divisions and place names. The Ministry of Civil Affairs said that relics related to administrative divisions and place names are immovable cultural relics that can reflect the evolution of administrative divisions, changes in place names, as well as historical events, state governance, regional culture, and ethnic integration. The pilot aims to promote the formation of a work system for identification, protection, and utilization, and to accumulate experience for subsequent fullscale implementation. According to the notice, the pilot areas will carry out practice around scientific identification, orderly announcement, coordinated protection, and innovative utilization, and relevant departments will also strengthen guidance and coordination, promote the excavation of local historical and cultural resources, and enable these relics to achieve better inheritance and utilization through protection.
