The Chuncheon District Court has sentenced a man in his 40s to a fine of 6 million won for repeatedly sending messages and even making threats to his exgirlfriend.
According to the court, after A had dated the woman for about two months starting in March last year and was told they were breaking up, he sent 61 KakaoTalk and text messages demanding that she pay back dating expenses. A also pressured her by saying he would file fraud charges against her or tell her acquaintances and workplace, and he was also accused of entering the place where the other person was staying without permission.
The bench determined that such actions constituted stalking and threats rather than the resolution of a civil dispute. However, it said that the fact that he had no prior criminal record and admitted some of the charges was reflected in sentencing.
